Solution Overview
Based upon the recommendations of the AMLE to provide students with an education that is empowering and a curriculum that is relevant, and also based upon the fact that all students are affected by the imbalance of historical perspectives, how we teach history must change.

In order to equalize the power of gender perspectives in social studies, teachers must use a holistic approach that includes: integrating women's history into the study of all history, including materials with multiple perspectives, and teaching students the practice of critical literacy.

Holistic Approach for Teaching Women's History
Implications
As of 2014, only 18.3% of U.S. congressional leaders were women. This small number means that women's voices, interests, and issues are less likely to be heard.
The holistic approach for teaching women's history intends to not only balance the perspectives offered in the social studies classroom but to also encourage females to take social action and share their own perspectives. As female students become empowered throught the stories of other women and the opportunity to share their own perspectives, we may see the necessary increase in women as political leaders.
